“Back when I was younger and writing music in Virginia, I used to test out all my new songs by playing them to buddies at the end of this dock,” Smith explains. “When I started writing a new batch of tunes this year, ones that are truly inspired by my roots, it just made sense that I take them back to where it all began – except this time, I’m inviting everyone down to the dock to hear what I’ve been working on.”
Smith co-wrote "
Colder Than You" with Corey Crowder and Jared Mullins as well as co-produced alongside Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. Continuing to garner praise, the “deliberately stripped-down” (
Rolling Stone) tune is taken to the next level with this acoustic update – highlighting Smith’s “raw tone” (
Billboard) and “honey-and-bourbon-drenched southern drawl” (
The Virginian-Pilot), while bringing even more attention to the calculated lyrics that manage to put a twangy twist on heartbreak – or lack thereof.
Just in time for fall, Smith
recently revealed his plans to release another new track titled “Cabin In The Woods” on 10/23.
