Reminiscing on the sweet moments of their first dates mixed with all the second-guessing of a new relationship, Carmack and Slaver pulled inspiration from their own love story’s soundtrack for their charming independent release. Head-over-heels while exploring their then-hometown of Nashville, TN, they fell for each other over writers' rounds and a mutual passion for Pop-Country music. Stripping back the production for a tender melody, Carmack plays both his acoustic and homemade electric guitars, bass, and drums, while Slaver stirs emotions with her violin, mandolin, and piano on the “ethereal love song” (American Songwriter).

“The lighthearted nature and production of ‘The Risk’ takes us back to an earlier, more carefree time in our relationship; before we took on the responsibilities of starting a family and the realities of married life,” Slaver shares with Hollywood Life. “However, its message also reflects the pandemic, as the ‘risk factor’ seems high these days just walking out of your front door. The song’s lyrics are rooted in the memories Chris and I shared during our first few dates.”

“‘The Risk’ came out of our need to write and share a lighthearted, happy song that could garner a few smiles from us and our fans. We didn’t overthink production, we just played our instruments and sang,” Carmack added with Hollywood Life. “It was not surprising that it came out sounding more like the Country music we were making as individuals before we started our band.”

Premiering a romantic self-directed lyric video exclusively with Hollywood Life, Carmack and Slaver complement the self-penned single with flirty black-and-white selfie-style footage that captures the innocence of a blossoming love: “That’s the risk / No way to know if we’ll make it / Comes down to this / The risk factor’s high now just being alive now let’s face it / Love’s a risk, baby let’s take it.” The married couple of nearly two and a half years also made a special on-screen appearance for American Songwriter, as they recently conducted their own interview. Watch here.

“If Life On Eris wasn’t on your radar before, 'The Risk' catapults the couple straight to the top of the list, making their love, and this song, well worth the risk,” hails American Songwriter.

ABOUT LIFE ON ERIS:
Husband-wife duo Life On Eris, comprised of musicians Chris Carmack and Erin Slaver, have independently released their debut Alt-Pop STONEWALL EP. Named as a nod to both the combination of their first names and to the dwarf planet Eris – termed for the Greek goddess of strife and discord – Life On Eris finds inspiration in harmony, but also in the complications and complexities of marriage. Carmack and Slaver wed in 2018 after meeting while filming on the hit TV drama, Nashville. Both backed by storied careers, Carmack’s had an instrument in-hand since he was a child, starting with the saxophone and then picking up the guitar. He began writing songs and performing live in high school as part of jazz band and theater, later studying at NYU’s esteemed Tisch Adler Conservatory, before shopping his own material around Los Angeles while pursuing acting projects – notable roles include major TV shows: Grey’s AnatomyNashville, and The O.C. With Nashville, he joined fellow castmates on sold-out stages worldwide during multi-year tours across the U.S., UK, and Ireland, plus was a part of Nashville compilation albums spanning all six seasons. In 2015, he released critically-acclaimed solo EP, PIECES OF YOU. Slaver was enrolled in classical violin training at the age of three, and eventually attended a music conservatory to further hone her craft. She’s co-wrote and performed on several studio albums with JD & The Straight Shot, and has opened for top-tier acts like Eagles, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Don Henley, and Jewel, in addition to touring in bands with major artists such as Martina McBride, Trace Adkins, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Katie Armiger, and JD & The Straight Shot.
