White co-wrote 12 of the 14 songs on his latest project, which he co-produced alongside The Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston. THE OPTIMYSTIC is White’s first multi-song release since he suffered a stroke on stage in August 2019, which could have been fatal and required him to undergo multiple surgeries and months of physiotherapy. Along the way, he poured his feelings into what would become THE OPTIMYSTIC, and the heart of the record is White's healing and the struggle he went through to come out on the other side.
Throughout White’s recovery, his lifelong optimism was tested as he learned to walk again, dreaming of future plans with the help of his wife, Alex. Her support inspired the already-released track “Power of a Woman,” which lent its name to the campaign of the same name started by White and Alex highlighting strong women everywhere. Other songs like the contemplative “Hurts the Healing” and anthemic “Giants” offer hope to anyone dealing with difficulty in their life.
Along with his health journey, White sheds a light on every aspect of himself as a person and a performer, including declaring his old soul status on opener “50 Years Too Late” and playfully letting an ex know that she “Can’t Have My Dog.” Ending with a years-old rendition of “Amazing Grace” sung by White’s grandfather’s church choir, including several members of his family, THE OPTIMYSTIC takes listeners on an inspirational journey inviting them to adopt White’s trademark optimistic mentality, a way of life that shines through on every track.
White is currently sharing his new music with fans on Whiskey Myers’ WHISKEY MYERS IS A COMIN’ TOUR through March 26 and will embark on the Spring leg of his headline THE OPTIMYSTIC TOUR at the end of March.
