Written by Honey County lead singer Dani Rose with Stone Aielli and co-produced by Aielli and Maks Gabriel, the premise of "Sugar on Snow" rests on the dessert it takes its name from, also known as snow candy or maple taffy. The sugary snack is a regional treat found in certain areas of Canada and northern New England and is made by pouring hot maple syrup on packed snow.
"Sugar on Snow" is a romantic, holiday-tinged song with a sweet message to a former flame, who Rose just can't get off her mind. "I wonder what would happen if I called you up and asked you / Have you ever had sugar on snow? / Could you come to Colorado? / 'Cause it's cold out here and you know I hate sleeping alone," she sings. "How 'bout we meet in New England / I heard it's beautiful this season / Maybe we could pick up where we let go / Have you ever had sugar on snow?"
"While on tour in Nevada, I was at a bar chatting with a woman from New England about desserts and our favorite things to make during the holidays," Rose shares. "Hers was sugar on snow, and I was fascinated by it since I'm from Virginia and never had that growing up. I love inviting people to try new things, and that's how the idea for the song ‘Sugar on Snow’ was born — at a bar in Nevada in 90-degree weather!"
"Sugar on Snow" follows Honey County's recently released EP Chess, a five-song project featuring four acoustic tracks that were featured on Paramount's hit show Yellowstone and a reimagined full-band version of the title track. Also in 2022, Honey County released the mom-celebrating hit "Got It From My Mama," which peaked at #2 on the US TikTok Charts, and "Strawberry Margarita Promises," which was featured on Entertainment Tonight.
On December 2, Honey County will perform at The Cutting Room in New York City with a stop at House of Blues Anaheim in California on December 21. Click here for Honey County's full list of tour dates.
