Multi-talent Charles Esten goes back to the place his heart never truly left with “In A Bar Somewhere.” Marking the third release off his forthcoming debut album, “In A Bar Somewhere” is available across all streaming platforms and digital retailers on June 23 – pre-save/pre-add.
Co-written by Esten with Neil Medley and Jason Gantt on Zoom while the celebrated actor was on-location in Barbados for Netflix’s global hit Outer Banks in 2021, the hypnotic Marshall Altman-produced track mixes quiet beauty with a sense of secret turmoil, all in dreamlike detail. Stuck in an emotional loop, constantly replaying smoky memories of a past love that was once perfect – only to fade like a beach town sunset – its lyrics pine for an unforgettable romance and the senses it brought to life: “In a bar somewhere / We’re still drinking and laughing / Not thinkin’ ‘bout what’s gonna happen / We’re still dancing right there.” The track ebbs and flows like the tide, with love coming in close enough to touch … only to leave once again. Esten pairs the woozy, heartbroken theme with an equally dramatic Roots-Rock sound, vividly calling to the one who got away with deep blue vocals, ringing reverb, and a haunting cello.
Fittingly, Esten announced the new single in a bar somewhere (that “somewhere” being one of his favorite Nashville, TN, venues 3rd and Lindsley) on Thursday (6/8). Playing additional new releases from his anticipated full-length project like his meant-to-be anthem “One Good Move” and the faithful Soul of “A Little Right Now,” he also surprised the packed audience with Eric Paslay who joined him for their not-yet-released rocker “Down The Road” and Natalie Stovall who brought a fiery fiddle and vocals to their unreleased barn burner “Sometimes All You Need Is A Good Time.” Supergroup Texas Hill set the stage for an unforgettable night as the opening act.
Fans can next find Esten on the road this July co-headlining with Julia Cole on their EVERY MINUTE EVERY MILE TOUR 2023. Named after a line in their “Worst Day” collaboration, the tour will take them through Florida and Alabama. Find a full list of upcoming shows and ticketing details here.
