12-YEAR-OLD SINGER-SONGWRITER TEGAN MARIE INVITED TO SING NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE U.S. WOMEN’S NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM
After making Florida Georgia Line “misty-eyed” with her own soul-stirring rendition of their smash-hit “H.O.L.Y.”, all while nearing 13 million Facebook views in just two weeks, 12-year-old viral country music sensation Tegan Marie is taking the music world by storm with Us Weekly featuring her in their “Buzzzz-o-Meter” column on stands now.
Her unbelievable luck hasn’t stopped after releasing her current single, “Lucky Me,” as Tegan Marie has been invited to sing the National Anthem prior to the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s match against Costa Rica at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, on July 22. It will be the final match for the U.S. Team before it departs for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Tickets are available on ussoccer.com.
Continuing her impressive momentum, Tegan Marie will perform at the 2016 Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on August 27. The annual single-day grassroots tennis and entertainment event in Flushing Meadows, New York, is the largest in the world, and takes place the Saturday before the U.S. Open. Not only does the “Who’s Who?” of the tennis world get involved in the iconic day, in honor of tennis legend and humanitarian Arthur Ashe, but some of music’s hottest acts once appeared on their way to superstardom, including Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Justin Bieber. Proceeds from the ticketed event benefit the USTA Foundation, which further helps fund the National Junior Tennis & Learning Network.
Following her CMA Music Festival debut on the Radio Disney stage in June, Tegan Marie has had a busy summer of dates, including opening slots for country star Hunter Hayes. The charismatic youngster continues to win hearts (and score online views in the millions) with her pitch-perfect interpretations of hit songs like Kelsea Ballerini’s “Love Me Like You Mean It” – which led to her performing the track while being accompanied on guitar by Ballerini herself. In between performances, she keeps busy writing and recording songs that display a talent far beyond her young age, as demonstrated in late 2015 with her holiday single “A Christmas Tree,” which was featured on SiriusXM, Radio Disney, Pandora, and more.
Tegan Marie was born in Grand Blanc, Michigan, a suburb of Flint, in 2003. She picked up a guitar at 6, wrote love songs at 8, and was playing national stages by 11. Her sweet, clean vocals and sensitive interpretations have tween and teen girls across the nation clamoring for more, and she was recently discovered by girls media company Sweety High after she shared her videos on their site. In their words, she is “your new obsession.”
