A prot?g? of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Steve Earle is one of today’s master musical storytellers, whose songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, The Pretenders, Joan Baez and countless others. Throughout his more than 30-year career, Mr. Earle has mined the veins of American roots music: country rock and roll, folk and rockabilly. His debut record, Guitar Town, shot to No. 1 on the country charts, and his Grammy Award-winning albums include The Revolution Starts...Now, Washington Square Serenade and Townes. He is host of "The Steve Earle Show: Hardcore Troubadour” Radio, on Sirius XM Radio. On June 10, his collaborative album with Shawn Colvin, Colvin & Earle, was released on Fantasy Records. Produced by Buddy Miller, it reveals a truly creative partnership between these friends who first met nearly three decades ago. His debut novel, I’ll Never Get Out Of This World Alive, was published in 2011, and a second novel and a memoir are forthcoming. Mr. Earle is also recognized as an actor from his roles on HBO’s The Wire and Treme, both created by David Simon. His website is steveearle.com.
A 13-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris’ contribution as a singer and songwriter spans 40 years. She has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Harris is known as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. Admired through her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s, and established herself as the premiere songwriter of a generation selling more than 15 million records and garnering 13 Grammy Awards (this year she and Rodney Crowell won the Grammy for “Best Americana album"), three CMA Awards, and two Americana Awards. Harris is one of the most admired and influential women in music. She has recorded with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and most recently Rodney Crowell. Few artists have achieved such honesty or have revealed such maturity in their writing. Forty years into her career, Harris continues to share the hard-earned wisdom that—hopefully if not inevitably—comes with getting older, though she’s never stopped looking ahead. A longtime social activist, Harris has lent her voice to many causes. She has performed at Lilith Fair, helping promote feminism in music and organizing several benefit tours to support the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. Harris is also an avid supporter of animal rights and is actively involved in Bonaparte’s Retreat, the dog rescue organization that she founded.
Buddy Miller is an award winning guitarist, songwriter, singer, record and music producer. He's produced records for Robert Plant, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris, Solomon Burke, Ralph Stanley, The McCrary Sisters, Richard Thompson, The Wood Brothers, Shawn Colvin, Steve Earle, The Devil Makes Three and The Carolina Chocolate Drops and others. Miller has released nine studio albums of his own, both as a solo artist and with collaborators including his wife, singer-songwriter Julie Miller. His most recent release titled Buddy Miller & Friends: Cayamo Sessions at Sea is a collaborative effort featuring a host of guest artists including Kacey Musgraves, Kris Kristofferson, Brandi Carlile and Lucinda Williams and was recorded in a temporary studio set up in the bowling alley of a cruise ship. He has toured with the likes of Harris, Steve Earle, Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Plant and Allison Krauss. Miller has a weekly radio show with Jim Lauderdale on SiriusXM Outlaw Country, is the musical director and band leader of the annual Americana Music Associations Honors & Awards show, as well as the Executive Music Producer for seasons 2, 3 and 4 of the hit ABC TV show Nashville.
